Extended family sessions are some of my all time favorite portraits. I love when families make the time to get everyone together to do family pictures. It seems these days, life is always too busy to do things like this and everyone is always on the go. It was really wonderful when this family reached out and said they were all going to be in the Quad Cities for a wedding and that they would like to have a session with the grandparents, their children and the grandkids. Generations type portraits are always so neat in that you can do so many different poses and setups, and the family can treasure these for year to come.
With this family, we started with the entire family in a few different poses. Next we moved into the grandparents with the grandkids. Then we just had to do one of Grandma with her granddaughters (they are all so adorable)! A cousins portrait, individual family portraits, grandparents and their kids, individuals of all the grandkids, etc., were just some of the fun setups we worked through during this session.
I must say, this family was incredible to work with! They mentioned wanting to do their session in a more rural area, so we did this session at my parent’s farm, and well…it’s a farm! They have cattle in the pasture area where we were doing the pictures so we had to work our way around a few cow pies! I suppose you could say it gives the kids who live in town some fun stories to share when they go back to school. None-the-less, it was truly wonderful to work with such a relaxed family who made light of everything. I was honestly laughing so hard at some of the funny stories and comments that were made! I’m confident you will see how much love and fun this family has in some my favorite images from their session below.
